Avril Le Breche told the crowd that the Friends were celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

She said she would like to pay tribute to one of the founders of the group, Pat Woodward, who had unfortunately passed away  Wednesday  of the previous week.  She offered her  thanks to senior countryside officer Peter Holloway for all his hard work in bringing the Information Centre to life.

Avril Le Breche also said, "Over the 25 years one of the objectives of the Friends was to have an information centre worthy of this majestic marsh. We are very pleased with what we see here today."

Avril then presented a cheque for £12,000 to the Mayor, Clr. David Flagg.  This made the grand total to £20,000 which has been raised by the Friends of the Marsh over the years to contribute to the fund to build the Information Centre, with the rest of the money  from the Borough Council.

Congratulating the Friends on their 25th anniversary, Cllr David Flagg,  thanked them for their contribution, adding, "As a Council we have a duty to ensure our nature reserves are preserved, and we all owe it to future generations.
