Across the County of Dorset twenty two post offices are to be closed disregarding the petitions and efforts to save them by the local communities.  Confirmation of the closures was confirmed on Tuesday.  The first batch of closures will happen as early as next month, October 2008.

Development manager for the Post Office Tim Nickolls admitted these were difficult decisions which had not been made lightly.  He said that they had considered all the comments, petitions and input from consultations with the public.  The Post Office's amended plan released this week offers our customers the best possible service across Dorset within a sustainable network.

The Post Office's cost cutting programme nationally continues but still maintains that a good service is still available to customers and most people won't notice any significant change.  They say that there would be an alternative within a mile.

In east Dorset, Bournemouth will lose two branches - Allday's, Charminster Road and Ashridge Parade, Northbourne.

Poole loses three - Park Gates, Parkstone Road;  Bank Chambers, Penn Hill; Sandbanks Road, Sandbanks.

Moving out into rural east Dorset, Wimborne loses Holt PO, Ferndown loses Ringwood Rd, Longham; Wimborne Rd, Stapehill; 550 Wimborne Rd, Wimborne.

Christchurch as previously reported will lose the "instore" post office counter in Stour Road.

Plus many others in towns and villages in North and West Dorset but two that were penciled in to close, Blandford Camp and Buxton Road, Weymouth have been saved albeit only temporary pending another review shortly.
