Ford Mondeo

Ford Mondeo 2007  Another fleet favourite due to it's comfort, drive, space and safety features.  With this in mind no wonder the Mondeo is popular with family used car buyers.  A decent range of engines and specifications to suit all drivers.  A good strong car the Mondeo has proved itself over the years and with a choice of literally thousands you should be able to find the right car for you.

The facelift of the Mondeo in 2000 gave the car a new sleeker look.  The Mondeo is a good workhorse with refinements and above average safety records, although storage in rear is limited and it's value has the potential to depreciate quickly.  In 2004 hundreds of improvements were carried out, many to try and put the model more upmarket and therefore attract more discerning buyers.

The Ford Mondeo's line-up now consists of 1.8-litre and 2.5 V6 petrol-engined models, plus the latest 2.0 TDCi diesels. The ST220 3.0 V6 high-performance model.   A direct-injection 1.8 SCi enters the range from 2004, but only on the top two trim levels.  Trims vary from the basic LX to the luxury Ghia X.  Zetec models offer a good compromise for comfort, a sport spec and good value for your bucks.  In addition look out for  limited-edition models that Ford offers every so often, which normally add an attractive amount of kit for the same money.

The Mondeo has proved to be a good motorway mileage eater although there were some niggles with the engine management unit which has been resolved.  Driving is good due to precise steering although a slight lack of feel, but the suspension is excellent especially into bends.

EuroNCAP gave the car four stars, this result is extremely respectable.  Driver, passenger and side airbags as standard on all models, in addition five three-point seatbelts and anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assist. Remote central locking with alarm and deadlocks as standard.

With literally thousands to choose from and fleet owners disposing  of them sometimes when just a year old means prices are very attractive to used buyers looking for a modern good value motor.  Dealers are again expensive but give you the security of Ford Warranty, although dealers only sell cars under 4 years old or under 50,000 miles. Another source is the Car Supermarket but don't pay list price to either because no-one ever does with such a vast choice available.  For the family man probably the best model would be the 1.8 litre Zetec.  Reasonable performance plus good mpg.

Rating 4 Stars
