News Online About Christchurch Online - When the internet was in it's infancy and just starting walk, desktop computers were becoming more affordable and you could use one computer to communicate with another via the telephone line, the webmaster. Internet Service Provider was the word and becoming plentiful. Servers were now affordable to non corporate and business users.

In 1996 the webmaster already had a personal site set-up but when looking for information about his home town of Christchurch, was surprised at how little info was out there. So he decided to create a site where virtual visitors could access info about Christchurch which relies heavily on tourism as nearby heavy industry has deserted the Borough for central England.

In 1998 Christchurch Online.org was created, more as a hobby and interest in computing. Featuring Visitor Info similar to what is now available on this site, including a Virtual Tour with pictures showing the highlights of the town and surrounding areas. Because of limitations on image sizes and slow internet connections for most users care had to be taken the amount of data available. But with more people online and the introduction of Broadband things were changing fast and so the site had to adapt. So, two years later the domain name was changed to Christchurch Online.net and the site moved to a better server all paid for by the webmaster.

With rising costs of server use still coming out of the webmasters pocket, but wanting to keep the site unbiased and non commercial he got sponsorship by a local motorstore which supports some of the site costs, ie; software updates, server use etc. At present we are contacting local businesses for more sponsorship in return for banner adverts and special listings and features in the directory.

Becoming An Author

Puzzled Firstly you don't have to be a technofile but basic requirementswould be access to a computer and the abilty to use email. One hour of training maybe needed at a time and place of your choosing if you would like to be able to access the site directly to input your news or articles.

You would have a username and password of your creation and the articles and news would be attributed to your name. You would then able to access the site 24/7. Your email address will be hidden and encrypted from public view although they would be able to contact you via the Site Contacts system.

Content

Your content would need to be at least 500 words to keep page presentable but there is virtually no limit to maximum words within reason. If you have no image the administrator would insert one suitable. If you have an image you attach it in email or if you have author access you will be shown how to upload and insert your picture.
To post articles or news at fairly regular intervals, what ever suits you - weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
