Post Office  Another post office is fighting to survive, this time it's the Stour Road PO located in the Londis store.  Owners Stephen and Debra Shewry say that a petition signed by in excess of 1600 people shows the support they have to keep the post office.

Objections to the closure have been added too by residents of the McCarthy & Stone sheltered accommodation complex HomeStour House and Riverside Court who may be affected the most.

The post office in Stour Road is convenient for all residents in the surrounding area as the next nearest post office is in Church Street in the town centre and being located in the Londis store adds to it's attraction.

The postmaster said that he has run the post office along with the store for six years and were devastated when hearing of the proposed closure of the office.  Many customers come into the shop to buy groceries, chat and  use the post office counter.  They consider it a real asset and one that would sadly missed by all.  Some can remember the post office here some 50 years ago.

Monday 8th September will be the last day of the seven week consultation period.  A Post Office spokesman said that during this period comments and objections were encouraged so that they could get some feedback on their proposals.  He also thanked all those who attended meetings to discuss the intended proposals.  It will be a number of weeks whilst we review the information before making a final decision.
