Air Museum
Former Site of Air Museum

The Bournemouth Aviation Museum which closed in December 2007 has been given partial reprieve after the local council approved plans for it's move to another site close to the Airport. Albiet the museum's site will be a scaled down version of it's former self.

The popular air museum had been open to the public for 10 years but with the expansion plans of Bournemouth Airport's owners their lease of a hangar and hardstanding was not renewed.  The museum was in a prime location with visitors able to view static aircraft outside and view the main runway.  The modernisation and expansion of the airport meant that the museum would have to go to make way for long term car parking facilities.

The theme park opposite the airport has offered to home some of the static exhibits but no place for flight capable aircraft.  However the council planning committee unanimously voted for some of the major and vintage exhibits to be located in the car park of Adventure Wonderland.

The trustees of the air museum have fought a drawn out  but unsuccessful battle to keep the museum near or close by it's former location.  The trustees future plans are for a permanent, dedicated location and building offering staitc and flying exhibits, aviation engineering, air traffic control systems and educational facilites
