Since the ability to capture images on to some form of media, photographic plates, cellulloid and digital media people have been fascinated with photgraphs.  Photos capture that instant moment, a micro-second of now just before it becomes history.  It has enabled us all to look back and view the moment with gladness and sometimes sadness but the image is forever.

Below on the next pages are just a few of those moments from the 19th and 20th century overlaid onto 21 century present day pictures.  Where these early photos taken for commercial reasons or for the sheer pleasure of fixing the image in a dark room then printing onto paper?
