Back in the sixties and seventies if there was one car that turned heads, sleek low lines, wire wheels and one of only few that could accelerate through a bend and survive it was this car. The seventies version, series 3, had the option of the massive 5.3 ltr V12 engine coupled to an autobox and folks, back then when you slammed the right foot to the floor your guts were pushed through the leather seat - exhilirating!
A classic car discontinued in the mid seventies and replaced with the XJS and later became the XK with the top range model having a supercharged V8 pushing out 400 bhp. With talks of the giant steel and manufacturing company of Tata in India buying Jaguar, the Coventry company are looking to revive the E Type to do battle with the like of Porsche and Aston Martin. Already Jaguar have a new model to replace the S -type known as the XF due for general sale in March. This model has had good reviews and pre-sales to match. Also the XJ saloon is next to have a new look, possibly and likely to be similar to the XF's lines and front grille.
Design chief Ian Callum developed a machine based on the study, but Ford chiefs in America opted instead to invest in both the entry level X-Type and diesel power. The F-Type shown at the Detriot 2000 car show received great reviews and was targeted directly at the Porsche Boxster but the new E type will be aiming higher - Porsche 911. So the new E type due in 2011 will probably have the new Jaguar grill also but will be a more rakish body, bold wheel arches with air slots to amplify the power look of the Cat. With a choice of revised engines, the 4.2 litre V8 and possibly a supercharged 5.0 litre spinning out 500bhp plus. This power wil be transmitted through Jaguar's 6 speed autobox. This new car wil be targeting pure sports enthusiasts so the XK will be for those who wish to have power but travel more luxuriously. Last update : 14-02-2008 06:49
