Millstream
Millstream passing Norman Ruins
The  millstream running virtually parallel to the Avon, nowadays is a pleasurable walk but centuries ago it had another useful purpose, flushing the "garde-robe" and powering the Placemill located at the quay. The level of the stream is controlled by the "Gin Door" a sluice gate which diverts excess water back into the River Avon

Access to the public was granted when the town paved the bank of the millstream to commemorate the Coronation of George V.  Prior to this time and centuries ago it was a place of contemplation for the monks who worked and studied in the convent.  It was only later that convents were associated with Nuns.  Hence it's name Convent Walk.  The walk will take you directly through leafy glades alongside the stream from Town Bridge past the "Lady Chapel" of the Priory to the Placemill at the Quay.
