The popular paddling pool at the Quomps could be up for a major change and be part of a new attraction to the Quay area on the banks of the River Stour. Of all interested parties there has been 100% backing to the new scheme.
The new "Splash Park" will replace the present and popular 1940's built paddling pool. The new splash park would feature an Archimedes Screw powering a watermill. The present paddling pool has been well maintained over the years by the council - new tiling and sealing. As you can see in the image above it is very popular with the children and safe.
Survey
The estimated cost for this park is near the quarter million pound mark and a 125,000 bid for funding has been lodged with the Lottery. The council is fuly behind the scheme and has pledged 100,000 towards it. Christchurch Comunity Partnership has offered 5000 and the riverside located Christchurch Rowing Club has promised a futher 2000. The outcome fo the Lottery bid will be announced in October. The organisers of this project is being led by the Rowing Club who themselves have plans to rebuild the Rowing Club with more facilities.
The organising group spokesman said that the community group got together and thought it was important for Christchurch to have a free outdoor water park feature. He said that he was overwhelmed with the strength of feeling towards the project.
The key objective of a feature like this is that it will be accessible to the widest numbers of the community, a visitor attraction especially those with young children and a key feature to remember Christchurch by.

Paddling Pool of Memories
I was born in 1951 and can just remember my parents taking me to the pool at the age of five. In fact I played in this pool for most of my childhood years. I have taken my children here too and now my grandchildren. I hope this project gets the go-ahead for the benefit of the children of the future.
