Quantum of Solace  The music video to promote "Quantum of Solace", the title of the 22nd James Bond film which is showing to the general public at end of October 2008.  The motion picture theme tune was written by Jack White of White Stripes and for the first time ever in a Bond movie theme song, a duet,  performed by Alicia Keys and Jack White.  The soundtrack is entitled "Another Way to Die."

In the video it starts with a darkened scene with virtually nothing visually except for some dark suited guys putting together the a drum kit and microphone stands.  Jack White flashes into focus holding a white guitar then the hands of Alicai Keys playing the keyboard of a white piano. Video effects give them appearance of walking apart then coming together again.

The song has been confirmed to appear in the soundtrack album which will feature music from composer David Arnold who has composed the Bond score four times previously,   "Tomorrow Never Dies", "The World Is Not Enough", "Die Another Day" and "Casino Royale".

Alicai Keys had hinted previously of her wish to work with the White Stripes earlier on in 2008.

The White Stripes is an American alternative rock band, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consists of songwriter Jack White (vocals and guitar) and Meg White (drums), who have remained the consistent line-up.

"They're very raw, very cut and dry," she told Rolling Stone magazine. "Drums and guitar. I think that combining that style with mine, which already has a raw feel to it, and my voice, I just think we could do something really interesting that mixes rock and soul together, the blues and emotion, and it could be really touching."

As usual there were many bets and rumours as to the likely candidates to perform the title song.  Duffy was put up for most likely, but now Duffy can follow Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Beyonce and the Last Shadow Puppets into the increasingly larger book of 007 condolences or "didn't quite make it."

But here is the downside to this video.  It's a good possibility that they didn't quite "get on" as one might have expected.  The video might as well have been filmed using blue screen and chroma key -  let them sing their bits and then overlay it together later for the final video product.  Why?  There doesn't seem to be any enjoyment in making the video and a lack of chemistry between the artists.

The film title?

Ian Fleming had written about relationships. He wrote, "When they go wrong, when there's nothing left, when the spark has gone, when the fire's gone out, there's no quantum of solace.

In the case of these two singers it did go wrong, there was never a spark and definitely no fire!
