Highcliffe Castle See more of Highcliffe Castles splendour after £1.2 million of repairs have just been completed.  Visitors can now tread the steps of this mansion home built by 19th century diplomat Lord Stuart of Rothesay.

Repairs and alterations now allow visitors to see more of the castle as crowned heads of state would have done a century ago.  The latest works on the castle ravaged by a fire and left in neglect for decades has been financed by a council loan which will be recovered from future revenues.  In fact the first works on the castle were financed by one of the first National Lottery grants in the 1990's.  Followed by a further four grants to continue renovating the clifftop home.  But the National Lottery refused twice to fund these latest works hence the loan from the council.

Works to the Grade 1 listed building included the installation of underfloor heating and toilets for visitors and staff.  Newly restored is the Great Hall which is now open to the public.  Also facilities and the castle are now open to disabled visitors.  Renovations have enabled future work to be carried out on more first floor rooms which will accommodate conferences, archives and educational faclities.

Dining Room  Repaying the loan will be accomplished by increased revenues from wedding parties, catering and tourism.  Therefore the cost of the scheme will not be met by Borough taxpayers. At this present time over 150 weddings and 47 receptions this year are already booked.  The refurbished Dining Room is considered a"working room" and not included in the standard admission, however it will be open for all when not in use.

Visitors can now visit previously restricted areas due to "lack of floors" using suspended walkways featuring glass balustrading and oak floors.  If your a keen enthusiast then safety hatted guided tours are available to areas not publically open yet including the original owners master bedroom with it's panoramic views over the landscape.
