Wilts and Dorset Bus A schoolboy from Purewell who used to pay 80 pence return to Grove Road now has to stump up £2.40 to get to school after Wilts and Dorset hiked up the fares for children travelling before 9.00am.

Russell Miles whose son, Michael used to pay 80p to get to school has hit out at the massive hike by the company who have just scrapped the discount for children travelling before nine in the morning.

Mr. Miles said that he could not support this rise and now his son just have to turn up late for school.  he added that 80 pence a day was £16.00 a month but now due to this hike it will be £48.00 a month - a rise of £32 which we can ill afford so we will have to walk.

"Surely every child in the country has a right to affordable transport and what sort of message was Wilts and Dorset sending out in the days of global warming and carbon footprint.

In response the Wilts and Dorset bus company said that they were just bringing into line Bournemouth and Christchurch with other services and towns.  The main reason prices have to rise is the high cost of fuel due to global oil supply instability.  As a commercial company we are trying to cover our high fuel costs.
