After many months of arguments an elderly Mudeford man, Mike Parker gets concessional parking for his daughter, needed because of his deteriorating health.
Everyday jobs like cleaning and shopping are carried out by his daughter due to his health and his daughters frequent visits mean that he can still be independent in the property on the quay that he has lived in for 48 years. Mike, formerly a fisherman and Mudeford Lifeboat crew member relies on his daughters visits but the quay parking is Pay To Park, expensive and some distance from the house. His helper struggles to carry the shopping and also not low cost like towncentre car parks. Already his daughter has been stung with two parking tickets and possibly another if she was not allowed free parking whilst visiting her father. He is a "blue badge" holder and receives disability living allowance. He said that this small concession from the council for his daughter allows him to stay fairly independent in his own home rather than the council paying much, much more if he had to live in a care home. There are parking spaces for each property on the quay and most of the time empty anyway as the owners or residents only come for holidays. Mike Duckworth, a Christchurch councillor said that this was a unique case as Mr. Parker was registered disabled, a long standing resident of Mudeford Quay and noraml visitor parking was some way from Mr.Parkers house. Although parking on the quay is for residents or fishermen only we, the council have agreed to provide a two hour pass for his daughter which wil alow her to park on the quay near Mr. Parker's home.
